FWG Competition Guidelines
1. Competition is open only to active members.
2. Late entries or entries submitted without a cover sheet are automatically disqualified. No exceptions.
3. Prose manuscripts should be typed and double-spaced on plain, white, unadorned 8 1/2 x 11 paper, no bold or color print. Poetry manuscripts may be single-spaced. Font size is limited to 10 - 12. Manuscripts that are not in agreement with the category for which submitted or exceed word or line lmits may be disqualified by the contest judges.
4. ONLY the title of the piece and category for which submitted should be typed at the top of the first page of the manuscript. (What the judges read must be anonymous.) See sample below.
5. The cover sheet for the manuscript should show the year, spring or fall contest, the author's name, address and phone number, the title of the manuscript, and the category for which submitted. Also show email address if possible. See sample below.
6. An entry consists of two printed copies of the manuscript. Each copy should be stapled separately and then paper-clipped to one cover sheet, with the cover sheet on top. If an entry is chosen for First Place, and it is convenient for the winner, please send an electronic file to the yearbook chairperson. If this cannot be done, a member of the yearbook committee will be glad to re-enter the manuscript for them.
7. Only one entry per category per member may be submitted. Entries that do not win first place may be revised and re-submitted at a later competition in the same category or in a different category.
8. First place ($30.00), second place ($20.00), third place ($10.00) and honorable mention may be awarded at the discretion of the judges.
9. All entries must be unpublished works. Entries that have won first place in previous FWG competitions are not eligible.
