About Our Guild......

Foothills Writers Guild is a group of people from the foothills region of South Carolina who promote the art of writing in three primary ways:

1) Monthly Meetings - 7:30 pm at Anderson University on the third Tuesday, September through May.  The December meeting will be a Holiday party at a member's house.  Each spring there is an annual workshop. The month of the annual workshop will the meeting for that particular month.

2) Two Creative Writing, Juried Competitions among our members each year.  Categories include poetry, essaays, and short fiction, which are judged by published writers and creative writing professors from area colleges.  First place winning entries are published in our yearbook.

3) Outreach to the Literary Community through our annual workshop and through financial awards to college students.  Students are given a generous discount in workshop fees.  Two Anderson University writing students will receive cash awards each year, based on recommendations of the English faculty.

Important upcoming Events & Dates.....

Sep 15, 2009 - Our first monthly meeting of the new year will be held at Anderson University, 7:30 pm in Watkins TeachingCenter across from the Library.  Members are to bring samples of their work to read during the meeting.

Oct 20, 2009 - Our monthly meeting will be held at Anderson University, 7:30 pm in Watkins TeachingCenter across from the Library.  Our speaker will be Vonda Skelton, one of the most popular presenters ever at past Annual Workshops.  Her topic for this meeting will address fear and other factors that restrict our productivity.  With humor and numerous personal experiences, Vonda will help our poets, songwriters, fiction, and non-fiction writers how to better understand and deal with blocks we all share.  Fall Competition entries are due.

Nov 17, 2009 - Our monthly meeting will be held at Anderson University, 7:30 pm in Watkins Teaching Center across from the Library.  Our dear friend, Ellis Vidler is going to be our guest speaker and will present a lively presentation on dealing with transitions  in time, situations, and characters.  Don't miss this one.

Dec 15, 2009 -  Our monthly meeting will be a holiday party and will be held at the home of Juanita Garrison.  There will be no scheduled speaker; however, there will be numerous discussions about writing and writers all about you.  A great evening is guaranteed.

Jan 19, 2010 -  Our monthly meeting will be held at Anderson University, 7:30 pm in Watkins Teaching Center across from the Library.  Winners of our Fall Competition will be announced and first place winners will read their winning entries. 

Feb 16, 2010 - Our monthly meeting will be held at Anderson University, 7:30 pm in Watkins Teaching Center across from the Library.  This evening we'll have a panel of members who have won poetry competitions share with us their "secrets" of how they go about creating winning entries.  Bring your questions and lots of paper for note-taking.

Mar 18, 2009 - Last day to obtain a refund for the 21st Annual Writers Workshop.

Mar 26 & 27, 2010 - Our 21st Annual Writers Workshop will serve as our monthly meeting and will be held at Anderson University Friday evening and Saturday.  Spring Competition entries are due.  Please click on the "Competition" link above for guidelines and categories.  Please click on the "Writers Workshop" link above for all current information.
