About Our Guild......

Foothills Writers Guild is a group of people from the foothills region of South Carolina who promote the art of writing in three primary ways:

1) Monthly Meetings - 7:30pm at Anderson University on the third Tuesday, September through May.  The December meeting will be a Christmas party at a member's house.  The month of the annual Workshop will the meeting for that particular month.

2) Two Creative Writing, Juried Competitions among our members each year.  Categories include poetry, essaays, and short fiction, which are judged by published writers and creative writing professors from area colleges.  First place winning entries are published in our yearbook.

3) Outreach to the Literary Community through our annual workshop and through financial awards to college students.  Students are given a generous discount in workshop fees.  Two Anderson Univesity writing students will receive cash awards each year, based on recommendations of the English faculty.

Upcoming Events.....

APR 15, 2008 - Our monthly meeting will be held at Anderson University, 7:30 pm in room 128.  Our speaker for the evening will be Lawrence Webb, Emeritus Journalism Professor at Anderson University.  His presentation will be "How Reading the Newspaper Can Make You a Better Writer."  A number of officer positions and committee members will be selected for terms beginning in the Fall. 

May 20, 2008 - Our monthly meeting will be held at Anderson University, 7:30 pm in room 128.  The winners of our Spring Competition will be announced and first place winners will read their entries.  Officers for the upcoming terms will be installed.  This is our final monthly meeting for the 2007 - 2008 year.

Sep 16, 2008 - Our first monthly meeting for the 2008 - 2009 year will be held at Anderson University, 7:30 pm in room 128.  Members will read their original works to the group.  The time limit for each reading is10 minutes.

Oct 21, 2008 - Our monthly meeting will be held at Anderson Uiversity, 7:30 pm in room 128.  Program information will posted here when confirmed.

Nov 18, 2009 - Our monthly meeting will be held at Anderson Uiversity, 7:30 pm in room 128.  Program information will posted here when confirmed.  Fall Competition entries are due.
